Mission of C3
The Colorado Competitive Council (C3) will work to make Colorado one of the best places in the country to do business, while creating sustainable prosperity for the citizens of the Centennial State. C3 will collaborate with other business groups to advocate for sound policies that encourage growth of key industries and attract more primary jobs to Colorado.
Colorado Competitive Council background
Colorado competes each day for new jobs both nationally and internationally. The Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation's 2005 study, “Toward a More Competitive Colorado,” determined that though Colorado ranks well in comparison to many states on a number of business issues, the Centennial State still has significant challenges that pose both short- and long-term risks to Colorado's high standard of living, quality of employment and family life. As Colorado’s business leadership, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce (DMCC), with support from a broad spectrum of the business community, created C3 to address these challenges and to continue to move Colorado forward.
C3 structure and administration
The DMCC houses and administratively supports C3. Similar to the Metro Denver EDC, C3 is an affiliate of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber.
Corporate Investors fund the effort. Participating chambers of commerce and cluster-related industry association are professional members at no cost. An Investors Committee made up of funding partners makes operating and policy decisions for C3. The Steering Committee consists of chambers and associations and provides guidance and insight to the Investors Committee.
C3's policy focus
The results of “Toward a More Competitive Colorado” identified several areas of focus such as educating our future workforce, cost of doing business and tax reform, legislation and regulation to enhance job growth in nine industry clusters. C3 also advocates for two clusters, Tourism and Agriculture, that capitalize on Colorado's heritage and strengths. C3 industry cluster focus:
- Agriculture
- Tourism
- Aerospace
- Bioscience
- Energy
- Financial Services
- Information Technology/Software
- Air Transportation
- Beverage Production
- Broadcasting and Telecommunications
- Computer Storage and Peripherals
